Cardrona, Warbirds, Transport & Beer, Blossom Festival, Fish Trip, Puzzling World, Milford Sound, Miscellaneous |
So, back to snowboarding. We bought season passes for two mountains (Cardrona and Treble Cone) a few months back on the Internet for just £90 each (good deal) and a bus pass to get up the mountains for about £200. The first day on Treble Cone was pretty icy all over and we just took it easy, but on Cardrona what little snow they did have was much better. Its the beginning of the season, and its just a short one, so we are expecting more snow soon.
Wanaka Airport is a bit of a tourist spot with the Warbirds Museum, Transport Museum and a brewery to investigate. On other days we went to see the Blossom Festival in Alexandra, Colin took us out in his motor boat for a bit of a Fish Trip and we finally walked up the road to visit Puzzling World. Oh and dont forget Milford Sound and the usual Miscellaneous section to keep you going!

We had to drop our hire car off in Queenstown the next day, so it was an ideal opportunity to have a look around the town and see what's going on. Just about every shop in Queenstown offers some sort of activity, from high speed jet-boating to bungy jumping. It was quite busy, but as we found out it was the start of the Winter festival and draws in big crowds. |
Well I just could not resist getting a snap of Dave in front of this cafe. We did not eat here, we had MacDonalds, but it looked quite good so perhaps next time round. We did, however, find that Queenstown has a number of curry houses on offer and we could not resist the attraction. The waiter knew we were from England, not by our accent but from how we knew exactly what we wanted from the menu - and we ordered it hot! |

A picture taken today, 22nd July. We spent Sunday on Cardrona and took full advantage of playing in the snow that landed the previous two days. This picture was taken from the Captains Cabin, one of our stopping stations on the mountain for hot chocolate and a munch on our sandwiches. |
Our first day boarding at Treble Cone. We were pretty much blown away by the view, this picture does it no justice at all, which overlooks Wanaka lake and had clouds hovering half-way up the mountains. In the lower right you may be able to make out a trail; this was the route that all the cars and buses take to get up here. |

Dave quaffs a Cafe Latte from the up-market cafe, our only stop off point on Treble Cone. Actually the Hot Chocolates up here are pretty wicked. They use a chocolate sauce and pop a couple of marshmellows in too, best left for a minute or two and eaten when almost melted - my personal favourite. |
Another landscape picture, which this camera is not the best for (I think it works well for close up shots of people with a bit of background). I liked this shot as the light just catches the jaggies of the peaks. This was taken from the car as we were driving towards Queenstown from Wanaka along the Crown Range road connecting the two. |
